Black Bearded Brothers from Baltimore

We all have talents but it seems the only ones gloried are athletes. Baltimore in my opinion has some of the most talented youth and black men in the country. Unfortuniantly is jaded by the negative stereotypes portrayed in the media.

I launched a project called Black Bearded Brothers from Baltimore which highlights black bearded men from Baltimore that are not only positive roll models but are doing great things in the community.

Today we are highlighting David Jefferson Jr.

When your focus is not only on photography, but demonstrating leadership and positivity on and off the field, you can’t help but wonder where does one get the time. How do you fit so much into your busy schedule? Well David Jefferson Jr. is known for many things, but let’s take a moment to chime in why he takes pride in all that he does.

As a Baltimore, native and a graduate of Florida A&M University, who also has a love of football and loves the element of surprise. David shared that it was his father who planted that first seed of photography, as his dad was a proud owner of a professional Nikon camera.

This is something David vividly remembers as a child, so as the familiar saying goes, “like father like son”, David soon followed those very footsteps and began to explore photography. After his college years, David himself invested in a D60 and began taking photos of many of his family gatherings. Naturally with this inherited responsibility, he became the photographer for all his family events. And when you put those two words together, naturally and events, it’s no wonder David’s true passion is Event photography.

For him catching his subject(s) in a natural state allows David to focus on those candid moments that happen in that perfect instance. It’s all about catching those once in a lifetime memories that sometimes you just may not get a second opportunity to capture. So, for David; details, precision and timing are key components in getting that priceless photo.

However, when David is not behind the lens, he loves to give his time in coaching football. Football is not only a past-time of his, but David prides himself in instilling values and discipline with the kids that he coaches and mentors.

He helps them to cope and focus with all that life throws their way, literally and figuratively. Because for David it is more than love for the sport of football, it’s about connecting and showing these young men what it looks like to be dedicated and giving back to your community in a consistent way. And for David coming back to Baltimore as a successful businessman and photographer not only bridges the gap, but speaks volumes on the importance of reaching back into your community and sharing not only your gifts, but your vision.
